Recycling
Although Lithium Ion batteries are the most environmentally friendly battery, they still must be disposed of properly because rechargeable batteries contain elements that are harmful to the environment if simply thrown in the trash.
Many people overlook the importance of recycling. Mishandled batteries can be harmful to our environment, and can also cause fires and explosions. After time, the cells of dead batteries begin to corrode. If the metallic lithium in the batteries is exposed to moisture while the cells are corroding, there is a possibility of fire. If the battery is incinerated, this can cause an explosion. Hundreds of millions of rechargeable batteries ranging from cell phones to notebook batteries are discarded each year. Recycling keeps these used batteries out of landfills and protects natural resources.
We support the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a non-profit, public service organization created by the rechargeable power industry and dedicated to the recycling of rechargeable batteries. They have made recycling so simple you don’t even need to mail in your old batteries.
You may be surprised to find multiple collection sites at many of the stores you shop at including electronic stores, auto shops, home improvement stores, pharmacies and more. A few of the RBRC national retail partners include Circuit City, Home Depot, Lowes, Office Depot, Radio Shack, Target, and Sears. For a complete list of participating collection sites is your area and for program information visit www.rbrc.org, or call the toll free help line, 1-800-8-BATTERY.
